Landmark - Aviation Hangar

San Diego, California

Airports aren’t normally associated with art galleries.

So when the opportunity arose to create an installation on the side of a private jet hangar at the San Diego International Airport in California, we decided to challenge that perception.

To do so, we transformed the hangar’s 190 by 35 foot façade into a sculptural showpiece.

Cast fibreglass composite forms, ranging from 6 to 18 feet long, were mounted, resulting in an installation that would be seen by thousands - from the ground and from the air, from a distance and from up close.

These multiple vantage points, and the interplay of light and shadow, allowed us to play with perspective in a wholly unique setting.

As it turns out, airports and art aren’t so incompatible after all.
